Overdue seafarer tax returns
There are time limits for claiming SED, and late Self Assessment brings penalties and interest. Coming forward is better than waiting for a chase. We can look back up to four complete years for new clients, at the standard fee per year that needs a return.
Pain
You ignored the brown envelopes. Penalties do not stop because you were on articles.
Solution
HMRC is usually better with people who come forward. We work out which years are due and file them.

What we need
A list of tax years you think are outstanding, discharge book history, pay records, and any HMRC letters. Involved cases may cost more — we explain before we proceed.
SED on late years
You can still claim SED on earlier years if you are inside HMRC’s claim time limits and you can evidence the eligible period. Missing HS205 workings and voyage proof is what kills late claims.
This page is general information based on published HMRC guidance, not personal tax advice. Seatax will apply the rules to your sea service after you enrol. Fees from £275 including VAT per return.
Questions people ask
Will I get a penalty?
Late filing can attract penalties. Filing is the first step. We cannot wipe statutory charges, but we can get the returns in.
Can you do several years at once?
Yes. Tell us at sign-up. Each year is charged separately at £275 including VAT unless we agree otherwise.
